May Workshop



On Sunday, May 15, 2022, the workshop by Sangetsu School and Mrs. Valeria Brinkers sensei is scheduled. Sangetsu School will show you how to make a beautiful vase using wood, wax, hot glue and paper. Read more about Valeria below>>

  • Time: Pre-meeting social time will begin at 9:30am with coffee, tea and light refreshments; the meeting/workshop starts at 10:00 am.

  • Please register for this workshop by completing this form and returning it to Michiyo Nakamura with your registration fee. As always, you are welcome to bring a friend to any of our workshops at the non-member registration fee.

Workshop Supplies & Materials

  • Vase/vessel/Container: Bring your own – Please bring a clear vase (preferred nageire 12 inches but any kind will work)

  • Kenzan: Not needed

  • Flower Scissors: Bring your own

  • Materials: We will provide ideas for making an ikebana using transparent vases, wax, wood, gold and silver paper, and hot glue.


About Valeria Brinkers

Valeria Brinkers is a professor of the Ikebana Sangetsu School and former President of Ikebana International Los Angeles Chapter. She received her jyo-kyoju title in 1993 from the Headquarters of the Sangetsu School in Japan. She continued to progress with her studies and earned her second level certificate as an assistant professor in 2010. In 2017 she was awarded with the title of professor. She is very active in various communities events, classes, workshops and exhibits. Last year she was one the speakers of the North Dakota University Master Gardeners 2020 virtual Conference and she teaches several classes in Torrance and San Diego.


Membership Badges Required

We previously distributed I. I. membership cards and badge holders to all members. Please remember that you have to wear your badge when you come to the Arboretum for any Chapter event or you may be charged an entrance fee. We kindly ask that you follow the Arboretum’s COVID protocol rules – all members/guests must be fully vaccinated, wear a mask at all times while on Arboretum grounds, and wear an Ikebana International ID badge.
