Tina Yang Sensei's Biography
My name is Tina Fu-Ting Yang, and I am the founding president of the Ikenobo San Gabriel Valley California Chapter.
Since I was young, I have always loved flowers and plants, often picking small blooms to admire and finding joy in their simplicity. In 1969, I formally began studying Ikenobo Ikebana, becoming a student in the Taiwan branch, where I taught ikebana for many years. After moving to the United States in 1983, I continued my deep passion for Ikenobo, bringing the spirit of this floral art to America. I kept teaching and passing on the tradition of Ikenobo Ikebana, and in 2010, with permission from the Headmaster in Japan, I established the Ikenobo San Gabriel Valley Chapter. This achievement was not easy, but it brought me immense joy to see my lifelong love for Ikenobo and dedication to my students come to fruition.
Ikenobo Ikebana has taught me not only the technical skills of flower arranging but also the philosophy of “harmony as a treasure,” which emphasizes the beauty of harmony and the vitality of life. This art has purified my spirit, enriched my cultural understanding, and united those who share a love for flowers. Together, we gather to enjoy the inspiration of beauty, cherishing each other and living in gratitude.
I firmly believe that the beauty of Ikenobo Ikebana extends beyond flowers and plants; it lies in the pursuit of beauty and the celebration of life itself. I hope that all of us who love flowers can embody this beauty, live with gratitude, and radiate harmony and hope.
