The Ichiyo School of Ikebana was founded in 1937 by sister and brother, Ichiyo and Meikof Kasuya. They sought to create an original style of ikebana that would be suitable for modern lifestyles and environments. Akihiro Kasuya, the third Iemoto, explained the Ichiyo approach to ikebana as “the union of two concepts: an arrangement must consider and relate to the environment in which it is created and displayed; and the arrangement must reflect the personality of the arranger. In this way, the arrangement becomes a form of artistic expression, not just flowers in a vase”. The current Iemoto, Naohiro Kasuya, challenges us to re-imagine traditional styles of ikebana.

Workshop: Using a wire grid in an ikebana arrangement. Wire grid panels come in many sizes and may be used in a variety of ways to create interesting ikebana arrangements. They may be used straight, curved, rolled, individually or in combinations to support containers and/or floral materials. They may be used adjacent to, around, or within a container. Wire grid panels add an architectural element and modern feeling to ikebana arrangements. Below are sample arrangements with metal grids. Click here to register for the workshop.
